Smyrna Quince Tree: A Delightful Dash of Orchard Elegance

About the Fruit

The Smyrna Quince is a treasure trove of culinary versatility and aromatic pleasure. This ancient fruit, with its bright yellow skin and delightful fragrance, offers a unique, tart flavor that is perfect for making jellies, preserves, and pies. Its firm flesh turns a soft, pink hue when cooked, providing a visually stunning and tasty ingredient that will inspire both traditional and innovative recipes in your kitchen.

What to Know About the Tree

The Smyrna Quince tree is a deciduous standout, shedding its leaves in the fall but not before putting on a springtime show with its lovely pinkish-white blossoms. This hardy tree is adorned with a symmetrical canopy and can reach a mature height of 12-15 feet, making it a manageable and attractive addition to any garden. Not only does it have a strong and appealing shape, but its self-fertility means that even a single tree can bear fruit.

Harvest Season

Harvesting typically occurs in late autumn, when the quince’s fragrance becomes almost intoxicating, signaling their readiness to be plucked. The fruit’s firmness and storage capabilities make it an excellent candidate for enjoying throughout the winter months, ensuring a lasting supply of this unique and underappreciated fruit.

Fruitscaping™ with Quince Trees

Invite the elegance of antiquity into your edible landscape with our Quince Trees. Revered in historical and literary contexts, the quince is a remarkable fruit-bearing tree that is both a gardener’s delight and a culinary treasure.

Quince trees are hardy and adaptable, thriving in full sun and well-draining soil. While the trees flourish in cooler climates, they also show a surprising resilience to heat, making them a versatile addition to various garden scenarios.

Encased in a golden-yellow skin, the quince fruit offers a unique aroma and flavor. When cooked, it transforms from tart to tantalizingly sweet, producing delectable jellies, preserves, and pies. Or take a traditional approach, poaching or baking quinces for a nostalgic treat.

The quince tree itself is a striking feature in your landscape. With twisted, gnarly branches and bright, eye-catching fruit, it has an undeniable character. Not only are these trees visually appealing, but they also blossom with lovely pink flowers that bring a touch of springtime beauty.

Shipping Information

Before Your Plants Arrive: You can find many guides on unpacking, planting, & care, on our growing guides page.

The Journey From Our Nursery to Your Door:  We NEVER ship our plants bare root. Your plant will travel in the very container in which it was nurtured. We thoroughly prune and water them before packing, and make sure they’re well wrapped to retain moisture during transit. It’s as though you’ve personally collected them from our nursery!

Choose Your Ship Date: We understand you’ll want to be available when your plant arrives. Our checkout process features a handy calendar that allows you to choose the Monday on which you want your plant to ship. Depending on your location, you’ll likely receive your plant by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of that week. Once shipped, UPS will generate a tracking number and send it to the email you provided. You can then follow your plant’s journey and ensure someone is available to unpack it on arrival day.
