Tropical guava Psidium guajava  is a popular fruit in most Latin american countries It is prized for it honey sweet flavor. The juice is used to flavor fruit drinks, made into jams and candies. Tropical guava is one of the easiest fruit trees to grow in the tropical regions of zones 9b through 11. The trees fruit year round in these regions and are a wonderful evergreen fruiting tree to add to the landscape. Fast growers, they can easily reach 10-15 foot in height and make an excellent privacy hedges are ornamental small trees. The bark on the trunk peels with age reveling a beautiful mottled coloration. Large delicately petaled white flowers are faintly fragrant.  For growers in colder regions this fruit tree is still possible to grow. In the marginal zones of 9a  the trees need covering on nights that fall below 29F and if damaged in a hard freeze will often return from the roots to fruit the following year. Far northern fruit growers can still enjoy this tropical fruit by growing in containers. Tropical guavas adapt easily to container culture often fruiting the first year planted.
