Ranger Ken’s Mulberry – Sweet White Mulberries!
We often are on the hunt for local fruits that have stood the trials of our climate. Ranger Ken’s mulberry was brought to our attention by several customers. We heard often about the incredible mulberries of Railroad Square. Railroad square is a industrial park turned art district in downtown Tallahassee. It is situated next to the historical old railway depot. The lots that surround the district are filled with seedling mulberries. Most are black but there are a few white mulberries in the bunch. White mulberries are known for their super sweet flavor and are really good for making raisins out of. Anyway Ranger Ken is the care taker of the Railroad Square Park, he’s a local gardening guru and can often be found selling produce at the local farmers markets. This mulberry is his favorite of the three we determined to be the best of the ones growing within the park. The fruit are large over an inch in length, the flavor has a nice rich honey sweetness to it. Fruit ripens early May.

Fruitscaping with Mulberry Trees
At one time, the Mulberry was one of the most treasured fruit trees on the homestead. They used to be planted around outbuildings and livestock pens, as they were valued as beautiful, useful and lush shade trees. They are tall, elegant and fast growing. Plant a weeping mulberry and train it into a living playhouse for kids. A simple framework and some judicious pruning will provide a playhouse and sweet treats within reach of the little ones at your house. Mulberries don’t need much care and reliably produced bucketfuls of delicious fruit. When the berries are harvested in spring, store them making a jar of mulberry jam or delicious dried mulberry raisins. Even spicy wines were made a long time ago from the delicious and versatile Mulberry. Mulberries prefer well-drained soils and part to full sun.

Unpacking Your Plants Guide:  Prior to receiving our plants, please click this link to read our Unpacking Your Plants Guide to get to know the steps to keeping your plant healthy after receiving it.
We do NOT ship bare root:  Our trees are shipped in the same exact containers they are grown in, for the most healthy transition. The plants are watered well before they are packed and wrapped in a shipping bag to ensure they stay moist during transit. It’s as if you came and picked them up right from our nursery yourself!
Why do we not offer free shipping? At Just Fruits, we price all of our plants online exactly as we do in the nursery. Therefore, the shipping cost is simply what it costs for us to get your order from the nursery to you. Many competitors may increase the plants’ prices in order to hide shipping costs… we do not do that. We want our customers to see exactly what the plant costs are, separate from what the shipping costs are. That way if you decided to come visit the nursery to pick up your plants instead, you would know how much you save in shipping.
Weather Watching:  We now ship all year round! However, we do watch for extreme weather. If there is extremely cold or hot weather expected around your shipment date and on your path of shipment, we will contact you and notify you that we plan to hold the shipment for the next possible shipping date with better conditions. If you ask us to still ship it, through the conditions, we will not be responsible for any damage caused to the plant & UPS will not refund any claims. We love our plants, and do not want to see them die, so we would rather wait until it’s the right time to ship it, than risk losing a plant in transit.
