About the Fruit

Discover the luscious world of the Matsumoto Persimmon, a variety that captivates with its delectably sweet and honeyed flavors. This non-astringent persimmon is a treasure trove of smooth, custard-like flesh encased within a brilliant orange skin. Perfect for fresh snacking, divine desserts, or adding a gourmet twist to salads, Matsumoto Persimmon is a culinary delight that promises to enchant your taste buds with its exotic sweetness.

What to Know About the Tree

The Matsumoto Persimmon tree is a visual delight throughout the seasons. This deciduous marvel showcases a stunning display of vibrant foliage that transitions from lush green to fiery autumn hues before winter dormancy. Growing 12-15 feet tall, it is adorned with glossy leaves and, in spring, delicate white flowers that offer a stark contrast against the dark branches. This tree’s easy-going nature, requiring minimal pruning and care, makes it a favorite amongst both novice and expert gardeners.

Harvest Season

Awaiting the harvest season of the Matsumoto Persimmon is an exercise in anticipation and reward. Come fall, branches are laden with bright, orb-like fruits that signal their readiness with a deepening, rich orange hue. This bountiful harvest is not only a time of abundance but also brings a warm, autumnal aesthetic to your garden.

Fruitscaping™ with Persimmon Trees

Embark on a unique Fruitscaping™ journey with our exquisite selection of Persimmon Trees. We offer both astringent and non-astringent varieties to cater to diverse taste preferences. While astringent persimmons are known for their high tannin content, making them best enjoyed when fully ripe, non-astringent persimmons can be savored crisp, like an apple, without the mouth-puckering sensation.

Persimmon trees are nature’s multi-taskers, adding visual allure, shade, and succulent fruits to your organic garden. They are remarkably resistant to diseases and pests, making them a low-maintenance yet high-reward addition to your Fruitscaping™ endeavors.

Persimmons thrive in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil and prefer slightly acidic conditions. They flourish under full sun exposure, needing at least six hours of sunlight daily to yield a rich crop.

In the Fruitscaping™ design, persimmon trees offer striking ornamental value. Their lush foliage in summer and vibrant, orange-yellow fall colors create a spectacular display. Moreover, the bright orange fruits hanging on the tree after leaf drop offer a unique, decorative touch throughout the winter.

Persimmon trees also prove a fantastic choice for different gardening styles. Whether you choose to shape them into a magnificent espalier or let them grow naturally, they contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of your garden.

Immerse yourself in the rewarding journey of Fruitscaping™ with our Persimmon Trees. From planting and caring to harvesting and enjoying the sweet, honey-like flavor of your homegrown persimmons, each step is filled with delightful experiences. With our astringent and non-astringent varieties, discover the pleasure of growing and savoring your own persimmons.

Before Your Plants Arrive: You can find many guides on unpacking, planting, & care, on our growing guides page.

The Journey From Our Nursery to Your Door:  We NEVER ship our plants bare root. Your plant will travel in the very container in which it was nurtured. We thoroughly prune and water them before packing, and make sure they’re well wrapped to retain moisture during transit. It’s as though you’ve personally collected them from our nursery!

Choose Your Ship Date: We understand you’ll want to be available when your plant arrives. Our checkout process features a handy calendar that allows you to choose the Monday on which you want your plant to ship. Depending on your location, you’ll likely receive your plant by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of that week. Once shipped, UPS will generate a tracking number and send it to the email you provided. You can then follow your plant’s journey and ensure someone is available to unpack it on arrival day.
