Black Taro Plant – Exotic Elegance for Your Garden

About the Bloom

The Black Taro Plant, also known as Colocasia esculenta ‘Black Magic,’ is a stunning ornamental plant that doesn’t bloom. However, its large, heart-shaped leaves are a deep, rich black color that adds a touch of drama to any garden. The glossy foliage stands out against the backdrop of greenery, making it a striking feature in any landscape.

What to Know About the Plant

This plant is deciduous and goes dormant in the winter, but its leaves will regrow in the spring, reaching heights of 2-3 feet. The Black Taro Plant boasts dark purple stems that contrast beautifully with its ebony-hued leaves, creating a visually captivating display. Its tropical appearance and unique color make it a standout addition to any garden or patio.

Enhancing your Fruitscape

Incorporate the exotic elegance of the Black Taro Plant into your fruitscape for a bold and dramatic touch. Pair this ornamental plant with fruit trees like Fig, Pomegranate, and Guava to create a lush and vibrant garden oasis. Mix in berry plants such as Blackberries and Strawberries for a pop of color and texture. Tropical plants like Pineapple or Banana trees complement the Black Taro Plant’s tropical aesthetic, while herbs like Basil and Mint provide a fresh and aromatic contrast. Together, these combinations will transform your landscape into a visually stunning and dynamic space that celebrates the beauty of nature.

Planting & Care
Landscaping with House Plants

While this plant is perfectly suited for growing in a container as a house plant, it can just as well be planted in the ground to enhance a garden. We love these plants for that reason. They add instant appeal to spruce up the atmosphere wherever you choose. They typically prefer a little more shade and warmth which is why they do well on a patio or inside the house. The love of house plants is so natural and healthy. House plants improve the quality of air and enhance our moods. That’s why we can’t seem to get enough of them! Try mixing colors and textures to find your favorite planter look.

Growing Guide

Currently, we only have growing guides for our edible plants.   We are working on them for our ornamental & landscaping plants, and will add them in the near future.  Contact us if you have questions on how to plant and nurture your House Plants, and we will be glad to have one of our gardeners assist you.

Ornamental & Landscaping Plants at Just Fruits & Exotics

Although Just Fruits and Exotics has been providing ornamental and landscaping plants to customers at our nursery since we added “Exotics” to our name in the 1990’s, we never had them available to our customers online.

However, September of 2018, with the launch of our updated Just Fruits and Exotics website, we added many of our ornamental and landscaping plants to our online store for our customers nationwide.   We encourage you to “Fruitscape” your yards, mixing edibles and ornamentals to make your own edible garden.

Shipping Information

Before Your Plants Arrive: You can find many guides on unpacking, planting, & care, on our growing guides page.

The Journey From Our Nursery to Your Door:  We NEVER ship our plants bare root. Your plant will travel in the very container in which it was nurtured. We thoroughly prune and water them before packing, and make sure they’re well wrapped to retain moisture during transit. It’s as though you’ve personally collected them from our nursery!

Choose Your Ship Date: We understand you’ll want to be available when your plant arrives. Our checkout process features a handy calendar that allows you to choose the Monday on which you want your plant to ship. Depending on your location, you’ll likely receive your plant by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of that week. Once shipped, UPS will generate a tracking number and send it to the email you provided. You can then follow your plant’s journey and ensure someone is available to unpack it on arrival day.
