Fakahatchee Grass - Swaying Beauty for Your Landscape
About the Bloom
The Fakahatchee Grass may not bloom, but its slender, arching leaves create a graceful and mesmerizing display in your garden. With a feathery texture and a rich green color, this ornamental grass adds movement and elegance to any landscape.
What to Know About the Plant
The Fakahatchee Grass is a deciduous plant that goes dormant in the winter, but don't let that fool you. Its bright green leaves turn a stunning golden hue in the fall, providing a burst of color before the winter months. This grass can grow up to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, forming a dense clump that sways gently in the breeze.
Enhancing your Fruitscape
Pair the Fakahatchee Grass with fruit trees like Citrus or Fig, which complement its delicate appearance with their lush foliage and colorful fruits. Berry plants such as Blackberries or Raspberries add a touch of vibrancy to the landscape, while herbs like Thyme or Sage bring a fragrant and culinary element to the mix. Tropical plants like Banana or Pineapple can create a tropical oasis when combined with the Fakahatchee Grass, adding a sense of exotic allure to your garden.

Landscaping with Grasses
These grasses are so incredibly lovely to use in the landscape because they can be used in so many ways. They can border a bed or be the centerpiece. They can be scattered throughout to create tuffs of texture to contrast your shrubs and trees. Or they can be neatly mixed in with flowers to accentuate the colors and shapes. We love these grasses because of all the fun we have planting them and watching them grow to be such a joy.
Recommended Fertilizers for Planting and Maintenance
- Starter Fertilizer:  Plant with Espoma Organic Bio-tone® Starter Plus. This will increase root mass and help avoid transplant loss in difficult planting conditions.
- Fertilizer to Maintain: Grasses will do well when fertilized each year with Espoma Organic Palm-tone Fertilizer
Growing Guide
Currently, we only have growing guides for our edible plants.  We are working on them for our ornamental & landscaping plants, and will add them in the near future. Contact us if you have questions on how to plant and nurture your Grasses, and we will be glad to have one of our gardeners assist you.
Ornamental & Landscaping Plants at Just Fruits & Exotics
Although Just Fruits and Exotics has been providing ornamental and landscaping plants to customers at our nursery since we added “Exotics” to our name in the 1990’s, we never had them available to our customers online.
However, September of 2018, with the launch of our updated Just Fruits and Exotics website, we added many of our ornamental and landscaping plants to our online store for our customers nationwide.  We encourage you to “Fruitscape†your yards, mixing edibles and ornamentals to make your own edible garden.
